Iron-Silicon-Aluminum Powder Core (Kool Mu)
Iron-Silicon-Aluminum Powder Core (Kool Mu):
Produced from an alloy of 85% Fe, 9% Si, and 6% Al, this soft magnetic material was first invented in Japan in the 1930s. Because it was developed in Sendai, it is also known as Sendust alloy. Magnetics Inc. (USA) refers to it as Kool Mu. With low loss and a relatively high saturation flux density (10,500 Gauss), this material is highly suitable for PFC inductors, flyback transformers, and energy storage filter inductors. Its near-zero magnetostriction makes it particularly effective in noise suppression filters. Since no organic binders are used in its manufacturing process, it does not suffer from thermal aging and can operate reliably at up to 200 °C. Available in magnetic permeability values ranging from 26μ to 125μ and in various shapes (toroidal, U-shaped, E-shaped, and block type), Kool Mu cores offer an excellent price-performance ratio.
